Go Home in a Box - Episode 32: "Captain America/The Punisher"
Wednesday Jan 31, 2018
Wednesday Jan 31, 2018
On this edition of Go Home in a Box, hosts Chris Jordan and Joel La Puma have their version of a huge comic book crossover event when they team up with a Place To Be Nation stalwart in TIM CAPEL, one-half of the WCW Survey Says podcast crew. Tim is a noted Captain America fan and he joins the discussion of the much-maligned 1990 Captain America film. Then the guys breakdown another film involving a popular Marvel character when they discuss The Punisher, the 1989 version that stars Dolph Lundgren. Yes, believe it or not, there was a time when Marvel film adaptations were not so successful. But are they really so bad?
Before all that talk, however, Chris and Joel list off a slew of new retro releases coming to you on blu-ray, and Joel has something to say about the current state of big-budget Hollywood. Check out why Go Home in a Box is a thing, and why you should be making it your podcast source for genre film discussion.

Friday Jan 12, 2018
Friday Jan 12, 2018
Mild-mannered reporters by day, Greg Phillips and Nick Duke share an intense love of comic books that has made them the Hard-Traveling Fanboys. And if there’s anything that fanboys love, it’s debating what book is better than another book or which character is “cooler.” Enter Countdown, a monthly episode where Greg and Nick will each give a top five list and debate the merits therein. Last year, the boys counted down their favorite Marvel Comics stories of all time. Now, it's time to flip the script and count down their LEAST favorite stories. Some of these are badly written, some badly drawn, some both; others simply represent ill-thought-out concepts or ideas that led to creative bankruptcy later on. Jackson and his film "Hell Comes to Frogtown" from 1988, which stars the late Roddy Piper in a post-apocalyptic landscape where he happens to be the most fertile man alive who has to contend with a community of mutant amphibians. Then in the second half, the guys step into the realm of martial arts films with "the Godfather of Hong Kong cinema", Chang Cheh and his film "Duel of the Iron Fist" from 1971. There are new retro releases on blu-ray and DVD this week, including a re-released Jurassic Park collection. Finally, the guys end the show on a rant about movie spoilers across the internet. What's the big deal??
