DC4U #23: Green Lantern-The Animated Series Pilot review

DC4U #23: Green Lantern-The Animated Series Pilot review

November 21, 2019

One of the best DC Comics animated series of all-time lasted only one season. Green Lantern The Animated Series came along on the heels of the Ryan Reynolds live-action film and was unfortunately the bearer of that film's sins. Audiences weren't on fire for Green Lantern, but they should have been! The series gets everything right the movie got wrong. Russell and Todd revisit the show and talk about how it still lights up the screen to this day.

Listen and find out and then tell us who's who in your lineup!

DC4U #21: Green Lantern Rebirth 15th Anniversary

DC4U #21: Green Lantern Rebirth 15th Anniversary

November 7, 2019

Fifteen years ago, Geoff Johns paved the way for a new era of great cosmic storytelling at DC Comics with the seminal Green Lantern Rebirth. All these years later and it's still one of the greatest comics Russell or Todd have ever read. It made new fans of nearly everyone who read it, including recurring guest Greg Phillips who joins the guys to talk all about the influence this story had on their fandom. It's a wild trip down memory lane to kick off Green Lantern Month!

DC4U #19: Swamp Thing (2019) Pilot

DC4U #19: Swamp Thing (2019) Pilot

October 16, 2019

Something is rotten in the North CaroliAHEM... I mean, Louisiana swamp. DC Universe's short-lived Swamp Thing series was everything fans of the classic Alan Moore run could ask for in a show and then some. Russell and Todd take a look at the first episode and discuss why Warner Bros. pulled the plug on such a promising new horror series.

DC4U Episode 18: Animal Man #1 (New 52)

DC4U Episode 18: Animal Man #1 (New 52)

October 10, 2019

DC4U's journey into darkness continues as Russell and Todd pick up the critically-acclaimed Animal Man #1 by Jeff Lemire and Travel Foreman. While it may start off like a superhero tale, things quickly turn twisted as Buddy Baker, aka Animal Man, experiences visions of death and decay seemingly caused by his own child. But that's nothing compared to what he sees when he wakes up. You'll never be comfortable in your own skin again.

DC4U #17: Top DC Horror Stories/Constantine (the Motion Picture)

There are lots of dark and foreboding corners of the DC Universe (and we don't just mean the DCEU). All month, Todd and Russell are looking at some of the best horror stories DC Comics has to offer. First up, the guys pick their favorite scary comics from across the spectrum of DC's publishing line. From spine-tingling jump-scares to deeply disturbing explorations of evil, these are the best books to pick up this Halloween season! After the break, Russell and Todd revisit the mixed bag that is the Keanu Reeves 'Constantine' film.

DC4U #15: The Flash (1990) Pilot Episode review

DC4U #15: The Flash (1990) Pilot Episode review

September 18, 2019

Flash Fact: Suits developed by Russians for deep sea exploration make for great speedster uniforms... for some reason. This and the many uses of fast-forwarding footage are discussed as Russell and Todd revisit the 1990 pilot episode of The Flash! John Wesley Shipp stars as Barry Allen, aka The Flash, in this short-lived series that, for better or worse, was some of the best (see only) superhero television at the time. Does this have more in common with The Flash or Tim Burton's Batman from a year earlier? Well... they both have Danny Elfman music!

DC4U #14: The Flash #123: Flash of Two Worlds!

DC4U #14: The Flash #123: Flash of Two Worlds!

September 12, 2019

Flash Fact: Russell and Todd are not the biggest Silver Age Flash fans. But some comics are classics for a reason. The Flash #123 was full of all the things we love as fans. Two iconic heroes meeting for the first time and teaming up against some big-name villains. Fast-paced action and dialogue. Performing tricks at super-speed for children. Talking dogs. Ropes that lead to other dimensions. The usual stuff.

It's the fastest month of the year! No, not February... Flash Month! Todd and Russell race through the best Flash stories, artists, writers and even discuss who wore the Scarlet Speedster uniform better. But they can't do it alone, so PTBNers Ben Morse and Greg Phillips jump into the race with them. Flash Fact: You don't wanna miss this one!

Welcome to DC4U, the only all-DC Comics podcast on PTBN Pop! Each week hosts Russell Sellers and Todd Weber take you on a journey into the great, fun, hilarious and sometimes weird side of DC Comics. No matter who you are, there’s something at DC for you!

Justice League Month concludes as this week Russell and Todd examine the hilarious (?) hijinks found in the network TV Special from 1979, Legends of the Superheroes: The Roast! This relic features Adam West and Burt Ward returning to their roles as the Dynamic Duo as DC's costumed heroes get "roasted" by their friends, family and villains while showbiz legend Ed McMahon hosts this trainwreck. This bizarre relic from days gone by must be seen to be believed. A lost DC classic? Perhaps. A must-watch? It is for us.
