This week on It Was a Thing on TV we present the winner of our Election Day 2021 poll along with one of our favorite moments from a popular cable show back in the day and Olmec!
First, it's 1984 and NBC is riding high on The A-Team so, of course, they had to capitalize on that trend. Mix The A-Team with martial arts and you get The Master...sort of. It didn't work, getting the heave-ho off the schedule after 13 shows. But it did get immortalized somewhat thanks to Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Next, one of our favorite shows from the mid-2000s was MXC: Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. When the show debuted, it started with a bang...or is that an almost snap of someone's neck? One contestant called Rob Tussin tried making a glorious entrance but it almost ended in catastrophe. And he jumped right up and continued with the game!
Finally, Greg (for 20 or so minutes), Chico, and Mike watch the debut episode of the Legends of the Hidden Temple reboot. Since it is a live show and we like keeping as much of the show intact as possible, you'll hear the same technical difficulties we experienced.

This week on It Was a Thing on TV we're revisiting some past Presidential elections on Television.
First, Dan Rather is one of the most respected newsmen in media history. However on two election nights, Rather went off the rails with some of his commentaries and metaphors. We look back at some of the highlights from the Election Nights of 2000 and 2004.
Then, advertisers will try to sell you most anything. At the same time, buyers will purchase most anything. At least one of those statements is true when it came to a chess set related to the hotly-contested 2020 Presidential election. Yes, there was a chess set dedicated to a Presidential election and it had its own half-hour infomercial! When we saw this infomercial, we knew we had to talk about it.
Note: Considering we talk about some stuff that happened during the 2020 election and if you want to stop listening after the first episode the timestamp to stop is 47:18.

Halloween may be over but we're giving you the leftover candy on this week's drop on It Was a Thing on TV.
First, we start with what might be considered the ultimate short-lived cult classic. Kolchak: The Night Stalker has been remade several times, became a comic book series, and is a progenitor to similar later shows, but its original series only lasted a season. With a celeb-laden line-up, what happened?
Next, our Halloween Trifecta of Terror continues with a one-off three-part anthology from 1977 titled Dead of Night. Overall, it is pretty insignificant, though some big names were involved with it. However, the first story does star one of our favorites, a young Ed Begley Jr.
Finally, we wrap up our Halloween trifecta of shows with some humor, straight from the minds at Saturday Night Live. In 2016, David S. Pumpkins appeared on a Halloween sketch. He proved to be so popular that he got his own half-hour special the following year.
ANY QUESTIONS?!?!

Into the Spidey Movieverse: Episode 7 - Venom (2018)
Monday Nov 01, 2021
Monday Nov 01, 2021
It's a new edition of Into the Spidey Movieverse as Greg and Chico are hitting the homestretch on the way to No Way Home.
This time the two look at 2018's "Venom" starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock. They look at how Sony could possibly make an origin story for Venom work without Spider-Man and shockingly succeed at doing it.
Among the things discussed include Eddie and Anne's relationship, the disgust at how we were lied to as kids as to how fun space would be, how far it is to get from East Malaysia to San Francisco and the joy of taking a bath in a lobster tank.
Next month we go animated as Greg and Chico go into the namesake of this podcast as they cover Into the Spiderverse.

Friday Oct 29, 2021

First, it only lasted 19 weeks but 1975's Musical Chairs was a landmark television program, as it was the first game show with an African-American emcee, in Adam Wade. It also had a fun theme song, a great cast of guests, and the cushy time slot after Match Game 75. It was also recorded at The Ed Sullivan Theater!
Next, one of the most brilliant things on TV in the last decade and one of the most bizarre, Too Many Cooks aired in the dead of night on Adult Swim. Within days, it was viral and repeated often. We offer a live commentary while watching the show and get into details about some of the production, and what happened to some of the actors and actresses.
Finally, the 25th James Bond cinematic release hit theaters recently. But would you believe there was a James Bond, er, Jimmy Bond to grace the small screen before Sean Connery? In 1954, the CBS anthology series Climax! had an episode based on the Ian Fleming work Casino Royale.

Popcorn Chicken Salad #6 - Little Nicky
Tuesday Oct 26, 2021
Tuesday Oct 26, 2021
On episode 6 of Popcorn Chicken Salad join Ben Locke, Logan Crosland and Matt Souza as they sit through what may be Ben's worst nightmare, the Adam Sandler 'classic' Little Nicky. Topics discussed include the radish of the salad family, the curtains haircut, the many voices (well 2) of Adam Sandler, comparing Little Nicky to Shakespeare, Hitler, SNL education, Ben turning up the volume to hear the Nicky voice, a very nice.................collar, duelling Zeus impressions, a slight disagreement about Lord Of The Rings, Deidre Barlow/Bollocks, the weird lad, Logan having to tell people off at work, salad etiquette, not understanding emotions when you are a hellspawn, Matt's perfect soundtrack, peppermint schnapps, Patrick Stewart, our favourite Nicktoons, the weirdest sentence Matt has ever said, The SCU, Jim Carey love, a very hache Reese Witherspoon, pillow fight techniques, ass in a flask, yet more Hitler, Logan missing his vocal cue and waiting for a blooper reel that never arrives.
Come for the concept but stay and find out if Ben makes it to the end of the movie, its Popcorn Chicken Salad.

Monday Oct 25, 2021
Monday Oct 25, 2021
In the twenty-fifth episode of Making Mt. Rushmore, panelists Rocco Martone & Tim Capel join moderator Steve Riddle to discuss which Horror Film Icons deserve a place on their respective lists. Is Jason Voorhees a no-brainer? What about Freddy Krueger? Does Frankenstein’s Monster grab a spot? Does Michael Myers or Pinhead deserve a place? After that, they discuss which Horror Film Franchises will be part of that grouping. Can you argue that Friday The 13th shouldn’t get a spot? Will the Classic Universal Monsters be included? Is Romero’s “Dead” Franchise in the conversation? What about A Nightmare On Elm Street & Child’s Play?
