Hard-Traveling Fanboys Podcast #91: Countdown -- Worst Marvel Stories
Friday Jan 12, 2018
Friday Jan 12, 2018
Mild-mannered reporters by day, Greg Phillips and Nick Duke share an intense love of comic books that has made them the Hard-Traveling Fanboys. And if there’s anything that fanboys love, it’s debating what book is better than another book or which character is “cooler.” Enter Countdown, a monthly episode where Greg and Nick will each give a top five list and debate the merits therein. Last year, the boys counted down their favorite Marvel Comics stories of all time. Now, it's time to flip the script and count down their LEAST favorite stories. Some of these are badly written, some badly drawn, some both; others simply represent ill-thought-out concepts or ideas that led to creative bankruptcy later on. Join us for what is sure to be a controversial episode!

Thursday Jan 11, 2018
Thursday Jan 11, 2018
Go Home in a Box is back for 2018! On this episode, Chris Jordan & Joel La Puma step off the beaten path of film directors to discuss two men who are better known in cult circles. First, it's Donald G. Jackson and his film "Hell Comes to Frogtown" from 1988, which stars the late Roddy Piper in a post-apocalyptic landscape where he happens to be the most fertile man alive who has to contend with a community of mutant amphibians. Then in the second half, the guys step into the realm of martial arts films with "the Godfather of Hong Kong cinema", Chang Cheh and his film "Duel of the Iron Fist" from 1971. There are new retro releases on blu-ray and DVD this week, including a re-released Jurassic Park collection. Finally, the guys end the show on a rant about movie spoilers across the internet. What's the big deal??

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been chased down by the latest episode of The Glenn Butler Podcast Hour Spectacular, as Alanna Kelly joins Glenn & Scott to dissect the latest addition to the Star Wars saga. A brief spoiler-free discussion on their expectations for and impressions of the film (taking up the first twelve minutes of the show) is followed by a longer discussion of the depth and breadth of The Last Jedi. How does the movie carry everyone’s favorite characters forward? How does it play with preconceived notions of what a trilogy’s middle chapter does? Why does Glenn suddenly care about Kylo Ren? They discuss how one of the storylines seems to be a sidetrack from the main plot, and then Glenn & Scott get sidetracked by ranking all nine Star Wars scores.
