This week on It Was a Thing on TV we celebrate the return of football and look at a truly (awful) quiz show.
First, we look at a game from last year that was so bad that we had to cover it for the podcast right away. What happens when two veteran QB's get traded to different teams in a marquee match-up in the debut season of Thursday Night Football on Prime Video? You get this epic crapfest.
Then, there have been many legendary characters behind the mic in the 50+ year history of Monday Night Football, from Howard Cosell to Frank Gifford to Joe Buck and Troy Aikman nowadays. For a brief period, the announcing crew consisted of the highly capable and competent Joe Tessitore and two people wet behnd the ears--the fish-out-of-water Jason Witten, and the human obstruction known as Booger McFarland.
Finally, Greg and Mike talk about an obscure show which ran very briefly in the early 1980s, hosted by a pair of brothers whose biggest claim to fame was being the shortest pair of twins in the world. The pair made some appearances on movies and TV, including a segment on Real People, which was apparently enough to give them this (awful) hosting gig.

In the forty-sixth episode of Making Mt. Rushmore, host/moderator/panelist Steve Riddle welcomes Chad Campbell & Jonnie Sea to discuss which Underrated Movies & Film Franchises deserve a place on their respective lists. Is the X-Men franchise a no-brainer? What about the Christopher Reeve Superman films? Does the Toy Story franchise grab a spot? Does Hidden Figures or the DC Extended Universe deserve a place? After that, they discuss which Overrated Movies & Film Franchises will be part of that grouping. Can you argue that the Marvel Cinematic Universe shouldn’t get a spot? Will the Harry Potter films be included? Is The Matrix franchise in the conversation? What about Frozen & Avatar?

Traders Of The Lost Arcs - Daredevil: Dark Art (Parts I - V)
Thursday Sep 14, 2023
Thursday Sep 14, 2023
We didn’t plan it this way, but the Traders are back with our second consecutive episode with a pick from 2016! Is the year just THAT special and rewarding? With our longest ever round-up of books also on sale, the comics market for these last five months of the year would seem to present a slightly different picture. But it’s a segment with a purpose, for where better to bury the increased influence of Marvel’s Inhumans, who play a not-altogether welcome role in this show’s selection: Daredevil (vol. 5) #10-14! DD’s new creative team of writer Charles Soule and artist Ron Garney have some big shoes to fill in the departing, critically acclaimed Mark Waid and Chris Samnee. With characters like Blindspot and Muse making a big splash, we evaluate how they’re faring in this representative story arc. Is Muse a worthwhile addition to Daredevil’s traditionally unimpressive rogue’s gallery? Do the Inhumans add anything to this story? And are we eager to explore this status quo further? Join Tim, Andy, Scott, and Shawn on this edition of Traders of the Lost Arcs where we unpack some truly DARK ART! Featuring bonus rants on Zack Snyder’s DCU and the shitshow that was Death of X.

This week on It Was a Thing on TV we go back to school while looking at a future starship captain play detective.
First, legendary NFL quarterback Joe Namath's last stop in his illustrious career brought him to Los Angeles, with the Rams in 1977. The next year, one of his first post-retirement gigs was on The Waverly Wonders, which was very reminiscent of a popular show on another network at the time. Just over a month later, the show got canceled. Its replacement, however, would last over 7 years.
Then, a bookish girl & a jock are selected to attend high school in space. An up-and-coming movie scribe & a legendary anime studio are chosen to bring them to life. What started as a Saturday morning failure turned into a cult classic. Strap in and hold on as we round out this year’s Back to School special with a trip to Galaxy High School.
Finally, Columbo was an NBC staple in their Mystery Movie rotation throughout most of the 70s. When the network went on a huge decline at the end of the decade, NBC tried anything to get viewers including a non-canonical spinoff. At least we got to see a young Captain Janeway.

Season Previews Continue with a group of teams who internally may be confident with themselves, but have a lot of doubters on the outside. Andrew and Adam go over IND, BKN, CHI, ORL, TOR, and UTA. . . yeah, that's right- some of this group is going to be in the mid-lottery. That's a very expensive bad team! Enjoy !
